This video is certainly a must see for all educators. Rita Pierson brings forth so many great points in what it means to be a true educator. She has many quotable moments during her Ted Talk, however, one the most popular one is when she says, “Kids don’t learn from people they don’t like.” She speaks to the power of relationships and connection with our students. Beyond the curriculum, lesson planning and day to day activities of being a teacher, Rita brilliantly demonstrates that how we as educators can make the most significant difference in our students by building real relationships and connecting with our students, through compassion, empathy, understanding and so on. I think her talk will either affirm what is you are already doing in your classroom or it may have you rethinking your approach to your students to become an even more effective teacher than you already are.
